Parents of several students have claimed to have received text messages and calls from agents offering to confirm seats in private medical colleges. Admissions to the colleges are through an all-India common entrance test (CET) conducted by Association of Management of Unaided Private Medical and Dental Colleges of Maharashtra (AMUPMDC).

The exam is on May 26 this year.

Jayant Jain, president,Forum for Fairness in Education, alleged a huge racket.

“Parents have received calls from agents. Each agent guarantees admission for a fee, saying he has a tieup with certain medical colleges.

“When I pretended to be a parent and called an agent,he demanded Rs 80 lakh for a confirmed seat,” he said.

Jain alleged the agents had a nexus with private medical college staff.

Abdul Rasheed Shaikh, father of an aspiring medical student, said,“When I asked the agents how an admission will be confirmed, they said students needed to only attempt questions they know answers to,leave the rest. They said they would manipulate the answer sheet.”

Shaikh said when he asked if his child could get admission to Terena Medical College,an agent told him he had contacts only in Ashwini Medical College (Solapur) and Ulhas Patil Medical college (Jalgaon).

Another parent Ajaz Rawoot said,“I am getting such text messages for the past 15 days. When I contacted an agent,he demanded Rs 20 lakh for exam paper manipulation and Rs 40 lakh for results manipulation.”

The agent told Rawoot he got his number from the AMUPMDC database.

A Pune resident said,“My daughter scored 156 in AMUPMDC CET last year. But students with scores of 80-90 got admission,my daughter didn’t. I believe there is a big racket here. This year,I started receiving calls from agents offering admission for a price.”

Rawoot said he did not file a police complaint because he did not want to get into a mess.
