The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Thursday arrested an alleged Jamat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB) trainer and motivator, Nurul Hoque alias Naeem, 26, from near Howrah railway station in connection with the October 2, 2014 Burdwan blast case.

According to the NIA, Naeem “has been identified as a key co-conspirator and was absconding since the Burdwan blast”.

Several witnesses as well as interrogation of JMB members arrested in the case had allegedly revealed that Naeem was a “very active member of JMB who was operational in Birbhum district in close association with arrested accused Dalim Sheikh and absconding Bangladesh national Talha Sheikh”, the NIA said.

Naeem was allegedly involved in a local fund collection drive with Dalim, and is a trained member of JMB, having undergone training at Mukimnagar madrasa in Murshidabad and Simulia madrasa in Burdwan, on at least two occasions.

The NIA said, “He had since been elevated to the position of a trainer and he had since been actively provided training in arms firing, explosives handling and self-defence techniques in JMB terrorist training camps at Shantipally in Birbhum as well as Simulia and Mukimnagar madrasas.”

As per witness accounts, he was also actively associated as a motivator in radicalisation camps, where he used to show various Jihadi video clips on a laptop to new recruits, and thereafter urged them to join the Jihadi movement with the JMB and avenge atrocities on Muslims worldwide, the NIA alleged.

A resident of Bakshipur in Murshidabad, Naeem was allegedly closely associated with Sheikh Rehmatullah alias Sajid, a Bangladesh national who has been arrested in the Burdwan blast probe, and absconding Bangladeshis Nasirullah and Talha Sheikh.
