26/11 Mumbai attacks: Five revelations made by former Pakistan top cop Tariq Khosa

Former Pakistan top cop Tariq Khosa has pointed to his country's involvement in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

In an editorial in the Dawn newspaper, Tariq Khosa, former DG of Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency, said that the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks was ‘planned and launched from its soil.’

Khosa, who supervised the investigation into the case, went on to present several facts, all of which had been expressly stated by India. Khosa’s editorial comes at a time when India has raised reservation about the Pakistan government’s inadequate efforts to detain Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, a mastermind in the case, in jail. Lakhvi was released on bail in April this year. Khosa also called for legal experts from both sides to sit together rather than ‘sulk and point fingers.’

Here are the top revelations that Khosa made in his editorial.

1. Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist captured alive by Mumbai police and later hanged, was a Pakistani national whose initial schooling and residence was in Pakistan, Khosa writes. His joining of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba also took place in Pakistan.

2. The terrorists were given training at a place near Thatta in Sindh province in Pakistan. It was from there that the terrorists launched the attack through sea, says Khosa.

3. Khosa writes that the fishing trawler that the terrorists used to hijack the Indian trawler, that they later used to sail to Mumbai, was reportedly brought back to a harbour in Pakistan, painted and concealed. Investigators had chanced upon the trawler, which helped them connect it to the accused in the case.

4. The operations room in Karachi, from where the terrorists directed the attack, was established by investigators, Khosi says.

5. Investigators were also able to identify the alleged LeT commander and his deputies involved in the dastardly attack, Khosi states.
