The state has appointed Janet D’Souza as the new vice-chairperson of the State Minority Commission. Her appointment comes almost two years after the post fell vacant. She is associated with the Congress and had earlier served as the president of the Mumbai Mahila Pradesh Congress. The posts of vice-chairperson and eight members of the panel had been vacant since August 2011. Only chairman Munaf Hakim and another member were

carrying out duties.
