Maha rises MLA Fund to Rs 1.50 cr

The MLA Development Fund in Maharashtra will now be Rs 1.50 crore with the state assembly passing the Appropriation Bill amid protests by opposition members,who wanted it to be raised to Rs two crore.

The House had to be adjourned twice — once for 10 minutes and the second time for 15 minutes. Earlier,Opposition members rejected Finance Minister Sunil Tatkare’s announcement that the MLA fund would be increased by Rs 25 lakh.

Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse pointed out that the MLA fund attracts VAT and out of the existing Rs one crore,Rs 25 lakh will go towards VAT.

“We use the money for public service,” he said adding that even corporators in Mumbai Municipal Corporation get Rs two crore as local development fund.

Opposition MLAs entered the well and shouted slogans demanding that the fund be increased to Rs two crore.

Speaker Dilip Walse Patil adjourned the House once for 10 minutes and called the Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and all group leaders for discussion.

Presiding officer Dilip Sopal then adjourned the House for 15 minutes.

After the House re-assembled,Finance Minister Sunil Tatkare announced that the MLA Development Fund would be Rs 1.50 crore from this year.
