A local court has ordered property attachment of 20 absconding accused persons in five separate cases of gangrape in the riot related violence last year.

Chief judicial magistrate Narender Kumar initiated the proceedings yesterday under various sections of CrPC at Phugana village here.

Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation officer Mala Yadav had approached the court seeking the attachment of property accused as they did neither surrender nor were arrested so far.

Five women of the village were allegedly gangraped by the accused named in the case and their houses were burnt during last year’s communal violence.

The SIT found 22 persons involved in the case. Only two accused Vedpal and Roki alias Don have been arrested while others are still at large, police said.

The accused have already been served notices from the local court.
