International Yoga Day: PM Modi joins thousands at Rajpath in world record bid

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will not do yoga himself, will be on stage at Rajpath overlooking thousands gunning for the record.

With at least 40,000 people expected to take part in the Yoga event held at Rajpath, the government is all set to break the Guinness World Record on International Yoga Day. Apart from the celebrations in Delhi, the government has left no stone unturned to make the day a success and has planned events across the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was earlier said to not do yoga himself, has joined thousands at Rajpath gunning for the record.

Four instructors from the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) will lead the crowd. Their actions will be beamed live on 32 LED screens set up on the 1,400 metre stretch at Rajpath.

Dhowan were present at the Rajpath doing yoga where Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a mega event to mark the day.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar was in Meerut for the yoga day celebrations. But perhaps the show-stealer were the soldiers doing yoga in full gear on the Siachen Glacier at a height of 18,800 feet above sea level.

9.30 am: Over 7,000 people took part in the Internationa Yoda Day celebrations in Thailand.
