Kerala High Court has filed a chargesheet against chief judicial magistrate N V Raju, who had earlier failed to record the statement of solar scam accused Saritha S Nair.

N V Raju had been the CJM (economic offences) in Kochi in 2013 when Nair was produced before the court. Nair wanted to give a statement to the court, but the magistrate refused to record it. His decision had triggered protests and BJP state general secretary K Surendran had complained to the high court registrar against the magistrate.

Accordingly, vigilance registrar S Mohandas probed into the issue and found that there were procedural lapses on the part of the magistrate. The registrar had noticed that the magistrate had heard Nair in camera for 20 minutes, but did not record her statement. The magistrate was then asked to give an explanation on his lapse.

A committee headed by the chief justice had rejected his explanation which the court found unsatisfactory. Subsequently, the court filed a chargesheet against the magistrate, who has been asked to furnish another explanation within 15 days.
