Kerala actor Suresh Gopi snubbed by Hindu Nair leader

Gopi said Nair’s reaction left him heartbroken, but the NSS general secretary said the actor’s agenda was to send an impression on the polling day that the NSS was with BJP at the by-election. (Nair community is the single largest segment at Aruvikkara constituency, where Congress, CPI (M) and BJP have fielded the candidates from the same community. NSS has been maintaining good relation with the Congress government in Kerala in the recent times).

“He (Suresh Gopi) came to offend the NSS. The venue of the organization would not be allowed to use for political agenda. He should not have come on this day,’’ said Sukumaran Nair.

He said the actor has not taken any permission to be present at the budget presentation, which is attended by delegates. “Do not flaunt the arrogance towards NSS,” Sukumaran Nair said.

Later, Gopi told the media that he was also a Nair and has right to attend the meeting. “Sukumaran Nair’s approach has left me heartbroken,” he said.

Earlier this year, another actor Mohanlal, who is also a Nair, had attended a major annual function at the NSS headquarters.

Sukumaran Nair had hit headlines in 2009 when Sashi Tharoor was made a union minister in the then UPA government.

Sukumaran Nair had then dubbed Tharoor as Delhi Nair. He was not ready to attest Tharoor as a nominee of Nair in the cabinet.
