Jammu and Kashmir Social Welfare Minister Sakina Ittoo on Wednesday distributed scholarship cheques worth Rs 18.57 lakh among 86 students.
The cheques were handed over to the beneficiaries belonging to Schedule Tribes at a function held at Tahira Khanam Educational Trust Lawapora on Srinagar-Baramulla road,12 kms from here.
Itoo said that providing financial assistance to backward students is top priority of the government. Various steps have been taken by Social Welfare department to promote the quality education and healthcare of students of backward areas.
She said,besides providing hostel facilities,nutrition is also being provided to the students.
