Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said he was informed by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj that India would immediately send two ships to Djbouti to rescue Indians stranded in strife-torn country Yemen.
Chandy, in an official release, said as the airports in Yemen have been shut, ships would be send to that country to ferry Indians to Djbouti from where they would be flown to India. Chandy took up the issue with Swaraj as hundreds of nurses from Kerala are working in Yemen.
The other day, the External Affairs Ministry had issued an advisory to Indians living in Yemen to leave that country considering the volatile situation there. Those who could not be ferried out of Yemen through ships would be taken to Saudi Arabia via road, said Chandy.

The Kerala Chief Minister said families in Yemen had contacted him saying that their employers, particularly hospitals, were trying to prevent their exit by withholding their passports and certificates. He said Indian ambassador in Yemen has been asked to interfere in the matter.
