India today conveyed to Pakistan its “concerns” over the sale of land attached to two gurdwaras there and asked it to “take appropriate remedial action”.

“The reported incidents of sale of some of the land attached to Gurdwaras in Pakistan has caused concern in India.

“Government has conveyed the concerns in this regard to the Government of Pakistan, and requested it to look into the matter and take appropriate remedial action,” a statement by the official spokesman of the Foreign Office said here.

The concern was conveyed in writing to the Pakistan High Commission here.

The issue of sale of 544 kanals of agricultural land attached to two Sikh shrines — Samadh Bhai Maan Singh and Gurdwara Deh — in Lidhar,a village within the Lahore cantonment was raised by BJP in the Parliament in winter session, after which External Affairs Minister S M Krishna had assured that it will be raised with the Pakistan.

The Pakistani Minority Affairs Ministry has also ordered a probe into how the land was sold in clear violation of the regulation restricting sale of any property attached to a religious place.
