A mob of Hindu men torched 10 roadside kiosks owned by Muslims in Mahoba district’s Kulpahar town after reports emerged that a calf had been killed by a vegetable vendor from the Muslim community.

The fire caused an explosion in an LPG cylinder at a nearby tea-stall. No one was injured in the incident. The mob set the kiosks on fire just as the deputy SP arrived at the spot after receiving reports that a calf had been killed. Heavy police force, led by district magistrate and the SP, had to struggle for over two hours to control the mob. Police have arrested the vendor, identified as 30-year-old Mohammad Shamim.
