Haryana IPS officer Sharad Kumar is new NIA chief

Haryana cadre IPS officer Sharad Kumar has been appointed the new director general of the National Investigation Agency

Haryana cadre IPS officer Sharad Kumar has been appointed the new director general of the National Investigation Agency (NIA),officials said Tuesday.

The 1979-batch officer,presently posted as director general (prisons) in Haryana,will take over from NR Wasan,who was given the charge of NIA in April following appointment of incumbent SC Sinha as member of National Human Rights Commission. Sinha was also a Haryana cadre IPS officer.

Besides serving on important positions in Haryana,Kumar had remained in Central Bureau of Investigation on deputation from July 1991 to July 1999 as SP and and DIG. While serving in Haryana,Kumar served as DSP in Gurgaon,Ambala and Rohtak. He remained the Inspector General of Police,Rohtak range for nearly three years and was promoted to the rank of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) in November,2007. He got promoted to the rank of DGP in December,2011 and was later posted as Director,Haryana Vigilance Bureau before being transferred as DGP,Prisons,Haryana.

Having got numerous outstanding reports during service,Kumar is also a recipient of President’s Police medals for meritorious and distinguished services in the year 1996 and 2004,respectively.
