The Supreme Court Wednesday stayed a CBI probe against Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in connection with a 2006 corruption case when he was the PWD minister in the state.
The bench led by Chief Justice H L Dattu issued notices to the CBI and others on an appeal filed by the CM. Tuki’s counsel Harish Salve told the apex court that the Gauhati High Court had ordered the CBI probe into various 10-year-old government contracts without hearing the affected parties.

In his petition, Tuki said the high court “in a hot haste manner” transferred all the PIL cases from Itanagar bench to principal bench at Gauhati on Sunday through telephonic message and listed the matters for hearing on the very next day.
Gauhati Bar Association has indefinitely boycotted the Acting Chief Justice K Sreedhar Rao’s court protesting against his decision to transfer all PILs pending before various benches to the bench headed by him. It has been alleged that Tuki as PWD minister in 2006 had influenced the Arunachal Pradesh government to award contracts to his relatives without inviting tenders.
