Keith Haring’s 54th birthday is being celebrated today by Google in a big way – it has presented a doodle that seeks to encapsulate his work in a positive manner – life is fun and vibrant.

The Google home page logo marking Keith Haring day has been replaced by by the dancing human figures that hark back to the artist’s roots as a social activist when he was at the front of the movement that sought to capture New York City street culture in the 1980s – social messages through the medium of art was his forte and Google has sought to immortalise Keith Haring by putting him at the front of its most precious page – google.com.

Perhaps what has made Keith Haring famous was his early death,at just 31 in 1990. The same situation ensured virtual immortality for other stalwarts too,to name just two – Marilyn Monroe and James Dean or as in India’s case,to an extent Sanjay Gandhi and Smita Patil, but mostly the gorgeous Madhubala.

Keith Haring would have been at the peak of his powers,if he were alive today – the world has missed much at the untimely death of Keith Haring
