Gallantry awards for soldiers in Myanmar operations

Colonel M N Rai, who was killed in a gunbattle with militants in Kashmir in January, has been awarded the Shourya Chakra (Posthumous).

Eight personnel of the Army’s 21 Para Regiment, which carried out the June 9 cross border operation in Myanmar to flush out militants following the Manipur ambush in which 18 jawans were killed, are among the 67 receivers of gallantry medals. Comman-dant Chandrashekhar Joshi, from  Coast Guard vessel ICGS Rajratan which intercepted the Pakistan boat off the coast of Gujarat on the night of December 31 has been awarded the Tatrakshak medal.

Among the 21 Para regiment personnel, Lt Col Nectar Sanjenbam, who led the attack, has been awarded the Kirti Chakra. Havildar Tanka Kumar Limbu received the Shaurya Chakra, while Major Prashant Yadav, Lieutenant Krishan Kant, Havildar Chanar Singh, Havildar Raj Bahadur Tamang, Naik Manoj Kumar and Naik Bhupinder Singh have been awarded the Sena Medal.
