Chief Moga district agricultural officer Darshan Singh Sandhu has been transferred to Bathinda as the deputy director (pulses),nearly a month after his own department staff protested against alleged corruption and misuse of government funds by him. He has been replaced by Dr Sukhdev Singh.
Following Sandhu receiving his transfer orders on Friday, whistleblowers in the agriculture department received threat calls from a woman who allegedly abused them for getting Sandhu transferred.
On Saturday,District Agricultural Officers Association and Plant Doctors Services Association lodged a complaint with Deputy Commissioner Arshdeep Thind, who later asked SSP Surjit Singh Grewal to conduct a probe into the matter.
On May 23,agriculture officials had held a protest against Sandhu, following which,Joint Director Dr Gurdyal Singh had conducted an inquiry. The probe report was later submitted to Financial Commissioner Suresh Kumar.
It was only after Dharamkot MLA Tota Singh interfered in the matter and spoke to Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal on behalf of the department officials that Sandhu and another 13 people were transferred.
