Ex Delhi police Inspector gets 3-yr jail in graft case

A court on Saturday sentenced a former Delhi police Inspector to three years jail term for demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a man for not invoking harsher penal provision against him in a criminal case.

A court on Saturday sentenced a former Delhi police Inspector to three years jail term for demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a man for not invoking harsher penal provision against him in a criminal case.

Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Siddharth also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Giriraj Singh Meena,54,after holding him guilty of various offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Meena,then posted with Vasant Vihar police station,was apprehended by a team of Delhi government’s Anti Corruption Branch officials from Munirka here on June 16,2000,while taking Rs 10,000 from Jagdish Tokas as illegal reward.

Tokas,who was booked in a criminal case,was asked by the convict to pay if he wanted himself not to be chargesheeted under harsher penal provisions.

The court,relying on the statement of witnesses,convicted Meena and awarded the jail term besides the fine.
