The Central Enforcement Directorate has sought documents on the alleged financial fraud in amalgamation of companies,in which Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh is a director, while Uttar Pradesh police asked SEBI to examine rpt examine the issue.

“The CED has sought documents from the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) through a letter sent on Otober 27 and the documents have been handed over to the directorate,” state Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh told reporters here.

On October 15,Shivkant Tripathi,a Kanpur resident, had lodged an FIR with Babupurwa police station against Amar Singh and others under various sections of the IPC,Prevention of Corruption Act and Prevention of Money Laundering Act,accusing the SP leader of amalgamating companies for converting black money into white.

The SP leader, whose wife’s name was also mentioned in the FIR,has denied the charges.

The cabinet secretary said that in order to ensure an “impartial and just inquiry” into the case,EOW,which had been handed over the case after the Kolkata police refused to entertain it,has asked share market watchdog Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to give its report.

“As SEBI is the watchdog in matters relating to unprecedented rise in share prices,EOW has asked for its report”,Singh said adding this had been done to facilitate investigations.

The cabinet secretary said EOW has also forwarded the documents to Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) which also comes under the Finance ministry.
