Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday continued his tirade against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his just-concluded visit to Bangladesh and said it had exposed his (Modi’s) seriousness in tackling issues like infiltration, repatriation, smuggling and illegal trade along Indo-Bangladesh border as he did not raise these issues with his Bangladeshi counterpart.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Lok Sabha election campaign last year had made promises on these issues and people of Assam supported him by sending seven BJP MPs from the state. But the Prime Minister did not mention even once any of these issues during his Bangladesh visit. This proves that he is not at all serious in dealing with these problems,” Gogoi said.

Gogoi said Prime Minister Modi had made such promises during the Lok Sabha election campaign only to garner votes. “He was never serious to implement his poll promises,” Gogoi added.
Meanwhile, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Anjan Dutta described as unfortunate and a betrayal of the people of Assam the prime minister’s not mentioning the Bangladeshi infiltration issue during his just-concluded Dhaka visit.
“The BJP took votes from the people of Assam with promises of throwing out the Bangladeshi infiltrators. But when the prime minister went to Dhaka he did not utter even one word on this issue,” Dutta said.
