During the hearing on the bail plea of social activist Teesta Setalvad and her husband on Thursday, the bench led by Justice Dipak Misra said to her counsel Kapil Sibal: “Don’t act smart.” As Sibal protested, Justice Misra clarified that the remark was meant for his clients and not for him. The judge added that he had been in the court for two decades and he could very well differentiate between a lawyer and clients. Sibal, however, replied: “I have been in this court since 1973, which makes it a 42-year-old career, and I have never acted smart with any judge ever.”
Pricey pilgrimage
Contrary to some reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unlikely go for the Kailash Mansarovar yatra. But 250 pilgrims will take the newly opened route through Nathu La to visit the the lake from June 18 onwards. The existing route through Lipulekh pass will also be functional. Interestingly, while inaugurating the new website and helpline for the yatra, the first question that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj asked the executive on the phone was how much the yatra would cost. The person on the other end told her that one would have to shell out Rs 1.5-1.7 lakh.

Twitter toppers
Seems like social media skills come in handy. Two senior diplomats, who were among the first in the Ministry of External Affairs to embrace Twitter, have just been assigned key postings. Vishnu Prakash, the former MEA spokesperson and currently India’s envoy to South Korea, has been appointed India’s new High Commissioner to Canada, while Navdeep Suri, currently in Egypt, is headed to Australia. Suri was instrumental in getting the MEA on Twitter when he was head of the public diplomacy division in New Delhi.
