THE severe cyclonic storm Nilofar weakened further over the northeast and adjoining central Arabian Sea and is located at about 560 kilometres southwest of Naliya. It would further weaken and pass over north Gujarat coast as a depression with a wind speed of 40-50 kilometres per hour, the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) latest release updated.
On Wednesday, the IMD had predicted the “very severe” cyclonic storm Nilofar to cross Gujarat coast as a marginal cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 60-70 kilometres per hour and a maximum speed of 80 kilometres per hour.
The severe cyclonic storm would move northeastwards and rapidly weaken into a depression over northeast Arabian Sea off north Gujarat coast by October 31 evening. It had moved east-northeastwards and lay centred on October 30 morning, over northeast and adjoining Arabian Sea, about 560 km southwest of Naliya in Gujarat and 560 km south-southwest of Karachi in Pakistan, the IMD release further stated.
