The Punjab Congress on Wednesday wrote to BJP leader Sushma Swaraj and SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, seeking their intervention in the case where a 12-year-old girl — who used to work as a domestic help in the Jalandhar residence of Punjab BJP Mahila Morcha chief Renu Thapar — was allegedly tortured by her employers.

In a letter to Swaraj,Punjab Congress spokesperson Nimsha Mehta wrote: “…We all have often seen you in the Parliament raising a voice to protect the rights of girls and women, but this incident has brought to the fore the real face of the BJP… It is requested that you have Renu Thapar removed from her post at the earliest.”

In another letter to Harsimrat Kaur Badal,MP from Bathinda,Nimisha said: “While the police have failed to file an FIR against Renu Thapar even four days after the girl’s father had lodged a complaint, the police have made the condition even worse for the victim by transferring the case to Ludhiana…”

She also asked Harsimrat to take up the issue with her husband and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.
