The violence in Assam Saturday triggered a blame-game between the Congress and the BJP, with the two accusing each other of sowing the seeds of communalism.

Targeting the BJP’s PM candidate, the Congress said the “credit” for the “communal atmosphere” in the country goes to Narendra Modi.

Law Minister Kapil Sibal said, “Modi means ‘M’ for Model, ‘O’ for Of, ‘D’ for Dividing and ‘I’ for ‘India’. This is his trademark and this has been the policy of the BJP since 1984 when they got only two seats in Parliament.”

The BJP blamed the “vote bank politics” of the Congress government in Assam. “It is my charge that in Assam what is happening is because of the vote-bank politics of Congress,” BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

He questioned PM Manmohan Singh, who represents Assam in the Rajya Sabha, as to what he had done in the past 10 years to ensure law and order in the state.
