Police are looking into complaints against an Urdu daily, Avadhnama, which published a picture of the cover of the latest issue of Charlie Hebdo on Saturday. When contacted, Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria confirmed that the complaints were being looked into.

Several police complaints were lodged against the daily, which has editions in seven cities, soon after it published the picture. People complained that it offended their sensibilities.

When contacted, the daily’s editor Shirin Dalvi said they published the cover as part of a story on how the magazine’s latest edition had performed. “It was my mistake to print the picture. I had no plans of hurting any community’s feeling. I am ready to apologize to all those who have been hurt because of this,” Dalvi said.
