Kerala high court on Monday granted bail to young Malayalam film actor Shine T Chacko and his four friends, who have been arrested in connection with seizure of cocaine.

Chacko and his friends/models from film industry Blessy Sylvester, Reshma Rangaswami, Tinsy Babu and Sneha Babu have in judicial custody since their arrest on February 1 from a flat owned by Muhammed Nisham, who had hit a security guard with his Hummer. A tip-off after the arrest of Nisham had helped the police raid the flat in Kochi.

Later, the police arrested Nigerian national Okowe Chigozie Collins, who had supplied cocaine to Ranghaswami, a costume designer for film industry. Others arrested were Punjab national Jasbir Singh and Chennai native Prithviraj; both of them had faced drug cases.

Police said they had seized around 10 grams of cocaine from the girls. This was stated as the first cocaine seizure in Kerala.

Although the police had initially claimed that the arrested actor and his friends were using cocaine cigarettes, results of lab tests were embarrassingly negative. The police had claimed that they were engaged in a cocaine party at the flat, which, according to the police, was frequented by high-profile clients.

On Monday, the police submitted the charge sheet against the actor and five others. The charge sheet against the three accused including the Nigerian national, would be submitted later. The charge sheet said the accused persons were involved in the business of selling cocaine for night parties. They were charges under various sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
