Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani on Wednesday said an online essay competition to encourage and enable students to learn about the life and the body of work of celebrated Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar would be held this month.
“We have requested CBSE that an online essay competition be held in the middle of January which encourages students to learn about the life and works of Thiruvalluvar,” she said while releasing a book on him written by BJP MP Tarun Vijay.
Asked whether the work of Thiruvalluvar would be incorporated in the curriculum of the NCERT, Irani said such initiatives may be taken into account while framing the new national education policy.a“We are starting a new education policy discussion across all states and… every state has rich heritage and culture that we can celebrate,” she said.
