Union Home ministry is planning to double the budgetary allocation for the modernisation of state and central police forces.
Home minister Rajnath Singh on Friday held a meeting with the concerned officials on issues “which need to be addressed on priority”. During the meeting, a ministry statement said, Singh directed the officials to prepare a proposal for doubling the Rs 1,500 crore annual budget for police modernisation.
Singh, who also reviewed other issues pertaining to security forces, directed his officials to ensure the best training and equipment is provided to the central police forces such as CRPF, BSF, ITBP, CISF and the state police.
The minister also directed the officials to pursue the proposal of raising 35 additional Indian Reserve Battalions (IRBs) to help state governments in fighting Left Wing Extremism and insurgency, especially in North-eastern states and J&K.
“Some of the core challenges and issues like housing, enhancement of allowances for CAPFs especially in the LWE affected areas, rotational training in CAPFs because of the over stretching of the forces were also highlighted and discussed in the meeting,” the statement said.
