BJP on Friday raised concern over conversion of Hindu and Christian girls into Islam in Kerala in the guise of marriage.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour in Rajya Sabha,Balbir Punj said the Kerala High Court has asked the state government to enact a law to stop such fraudulent conversions.
He alleged that an organization called Islamic Popular Front is promoting these conversions through Love Jehad and Romeo Jehad with cross-border support.
He said 2008 girls from Muslim and Christian communities have been converted this way in Kerala and most of these conversions had taken place in the four Muslim dominated districts of the state.
Through another mention Brinda Karat (CPI-M) said a Supreme Court judgement,which advocates leniency on honour killings is a gigantic step backward.
She said the apex court took a lenient view while giving a ruling on the judgement of the Mumbai High Court convicting people charged with honour killing.
Tiruchi Siva (DMK) urged the government to take steps to protect Indian sailors,who were missing and believed to have been abducted by Sri Lankan fishermen.
D Raja (CPI) alleged that American agencies interfered in the approval for genetically modified Bt brinjal. Independent analyses have concluded that Bt brinjal is unsafe for human and animal health, he said in a Special Mention.
Viplove Thakur (Congress) raised the issue of British High Commission denying visas to Indian students seeking admission in colleges in UK.
She said the High Commission has also not returned their passport and offer letters,which were submitted for visa. In the absence of these papers,the universities,which had offered the admission are not returning the earnest money.
Seeking financial support for the weavers of Banarasi sarees,Najma Heptulla (BJP) said they are selling blood to meet their needs and committing suicides due to crisis of livelihood and indebtedness.
There are over 50 reported suicides of weavers, she said seeking government help to redress their problems.
Santosh Bagrodia (Congress) expressed concern over the recent fire incidents in the IOC depot in Jaipur and said such depots should be relocated outside the habitation area.
He said the report of the enquiry into the incident should be placed in Parliament.
