Kuldeep Singh, a native of Kheri Bullan village in Haryana’s Jind district, was one of the personnel who lost his life on Friday. The 28-year-old had resumed duty three weeks ago after a vacation. Though shaken, his father Moladh Singh said he is proud of his son, who will be cremated at his native village on Sunday.

“It was about 7 pm yesterday when I received information about my son’s death. An Army officer informed us on phone. It was earth-shattering for the entire family. But we feel proud of Kuldeep, who sacrificed his life for his country,” Moladh said.

Kuldeep, the youngest of three sons, joined the Army in 2008 during a recruitment drive in Hisar. He was subsequently posted in Uri sector in J&K. About three years ago, he married Rekha, a resident of Hamirgarh. The couple have an 18-month-old son, Deep.
As the news of Kuldeep’s death spread in the village, his house was flooded with villagers who came to pay condolences.

“It is fate. The day Kuldeep joined the Army, he was determined to sacrifice anything for his nation. Not many people get the honour of martyrdom,” Moladh said.
