Another ‘honour killing’: Girl killed,cremated in Panipat

According to the police,Satnarayan and his family members allegedly murdered his 16-year-old daughter because she had eloped with a boy of the same village about 10 days ago. The girl’s family managed to trace her last Friday and brought her home. “For a couple of days they did not say anything,but on Sunday night her father Satnarayan,in connivance with other family members,allegedly murdered her and cremated her on the banks of Yamuna yesterday,” a police officer said.

A team of Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL) from Madhuban inspected the spot and seized the girl’s ashes for forensic examination. The girl’s father Satnarayan was arrested by the police on charges of murdering his daughter.

According to the villagers,the girl had quit studies after failing her Class X exams last year. She was helping her mother in domestic chores. However,she was apparently having an affair with one of the boys of the same village with whom she eloped.

Even after the girl went missing,her family did not lodge any missing report with the police and kept looking for her. Sources disclosed that an Assistant Sub Inspector from Bapoli police station,later identified as ASI Ravinder,helped the girl’s family trace her and even helped bring her back home.

Ravinder was also booked today on charges of criminal conspiracy. The Station House Officer of Bapoli,Deepak Kumar,was also transferred to police lines after the incident.

“We have arrested the victim’s father Satnarayan. Action is being taken against certain police officers as well,whose conduct came under a scanner during preliminary investigations,” said DSP Bali Singh.
