The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought an explanation from the CBI over shifting of two senior officers investigating the irregularities in the allocation of 2G spectrum.

A bench led by Chief Justice of India H L Dattu issued a notice to the agency, seeking its formal reply in two weeks even as special prosecutor Anand Grover noted that joint director Ashok Tewari had already been relieved from the CBI after completion of the tenure of his deputation.

Grover said he would file a detailed reply.

The bench, however, said it was not satisfied with the CBI’s reply and that it would call back the officers.

An application in this regard was filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, who said that transfer or reversion of officers involved in the 2G probe and the coal block allocation cases was not in line of the Supreme Court’s direction against disturbing them until the trial was complete.
