Former cabinet minister of Punjab and senior BJP leader Laxmi Kanta Chawla,on Friday, said the people from economically weaker sections of society who were being given wheat at the rate of Rs 4 a kilogram and dal at the rate of Rs 20 a kilogram under the state’s Atta Dal scheme were now only being given wheat.

Launching a scathing attack on the SAD-BJP government,Chawla in a press statement said,“The state government is only giving out wheat, but is not telling with what sabzi or dal the roti is to be eaten,” adding that it would be better if the government supplied two kilogram of salt to make people understand that in this era of dearness they would have to make do with salt and not dal.

Taking a jibe at the SAD-BJP combine,Chawla said,“Aisa lagta hai ki Punjab sarkaar ko ab atte dal ka bhaav maloom hua hai.” (It seems that the Punjab government has only now discovered the price of Atta and Dal).

Chawla said that in the last months leading up to the Punjab Assembly polls SAD-BJP had issued over two lakh blue cards to garner votes and asked the government to make it clear whether the blue card holders would get any dal or not.

Punjab Food and Civil Supply Minister could not be contacted for comments. The department’s secretary D S Grewal said,“Funds are being made available to the department and as and when those are available, the dal will be supplied.”
