Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who is currently on a two-day visit to Kashmir, told a press conference in Srinagar that the Ministry of Home Affairs will soon set-up a nodal agency that will look into complaints of Kashmiri youth across the country.

“I want to inform you that the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, will appoint a nodal officer for Kashmiri youth across the country. They can call the officer on the number… we will soon announce it,” Rajnath said.

Also present at the press conference was Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. The two leaders held a meeting earlier on Thursday. “95 per cent of the people of the state don’t want violence, they want peace. We have to reach out to them,” Mehbooba said. Singh, too, reiterated similar sentiments, saying: “Without the future of Kashmir, the future of India cannot exist.”

During his two-day visit, the Home minister met with several leaders from the state, all of whom expressed hope that the government would do what was required to restore peace in the Valley. Opposition leaders in the state also urged the minister to stop the use of pellet guns, which have resulted in severe injuries, and in several cases irreversible.
