Udta Punjab: Arvind Kejriwal accuses CBFC chairman Pahlaj Nihlani of delaying release on BJP’s instructions

Wading into the row between the makers of Udta Punjab and the Central Board of Film Certification, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday accused the censor board chairman Pahlaj Nihlani of delaying the release of the film on the instruction’s of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

“Pahlaj Nihlani’s statement makes it amply clear that he has stopped the film on BJP’s instructions,” Kejriwal said in a tweet.

Kejriwal, using the hashtag #UdtaPunjabCensored, wrote in another tweet saying, “What else could one expect under Modi regime.”

Earlier, Nihlani alleged that Udta Punjab’s producer-director Anurag Kashyap accepted money from the Aam Aadmi Party to show Punjab in bad light.

On Wednesday, at a press conference attended by Bollywood heavyweights, Kashyap demanded an apology from Nihlani and his sacking as chairman of the censor board.

Udta Punjab, due for release on June 17, is based on the drug menace in Punjab. The censor board suggested 89 cuts and asked the makers of the film to drop “Punjab” from its title, including every reference to the state.
