EXACTLY ONE year after the Centre and NSCN(IM) signed a Framework Agreement to find a mutually acceptable solution to the Naga movement, the latter has said that India and the Nagas were not only “unavoidably inter-related and inter-dependent” but also that the government of India had “recognised the sovereignty of the Nagas”.
“The Framework Agreement speaks of co-existence of the two recognised entities. The future of both the parties lies in the principle of inter-dependent relationship of the two entities, as it is so with others. Like it or not, India and Nagas are unavoidably inter-related and inter-dependent,” said Rh Raising, Kilo Kilonser (home minister) of the NSCN(IM)’s “government”.
He was speaking at the 70th “Naga Independence Day” celebrations at the NSCN(IM)’s council headquarters at Hebron near Dimapur.
“The Framework Agreement of 3 August 2015 speaks of the recognition of sovereignty of the Nagas. For the first time in history, the Government of India has recognised the sovereignty of the Nagas. Now the question is how sovereignty is to be materialised,” he said.
