In order to end the ongoing unrest in the Valley, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury wants the Centre to initiate a political dialogue based on the recommendations of various committees, interlocutor groups that have given their reports on Kashmir.

Yechury said this to the delegation of Opposition parties from Kashmir, who met him Monday as part of their plan to meet national leadership of major parties and urge them to help end the impasse in the Valley.

“While there are various suggestions like Government of India sending an all-party delegation to the state to assess the ground situation and suggest remedial measures, my point is that why does the government of India not come forward to start a political dialogue based on the inputs it has from the series of reports on Kashmir situation in the past,” he said.

“There are reports of various working groups, interlocutors. The government should cull out four or five guiding principles from those recommendations and start a political dialogue on that basis,” Yechury said. Moreover, the government should start political dialogue with all stakeholders, he added.
