With violence marring the third phase of the Assembly elections in West Bengal, the CPM Friday wrote to the Election Commission (EC), urging it to take tangible action and instill confidence in the people to vote freely and fairly.
CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury wrote to the poll panel registering “strong condemnation over the continued violence, terror and intimidation unleashed by the ruling Trinamool Congress party in West Bengal”. He said the during the course of the last round of polling, four CPM leaders have been murdered.

“I am writing to you because all poll related violence comes under the remit of the Election Commission of India as mandated by our Constitution. So far, no action appears to have been taken against the culprits who have perpetuated such murderous assaults. Unless tangible action is taken against such elements, the Election Commission will be failing in implementing its Constitutional mandate of ensuring a free and fair poll,” he wrote.
He sought immediate action to instill confidence amongst the people to fearlessly exercise their democratic right of franchise.
Accusing the Trinamool of unleashing a reign of terror, CPM state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra said in a tweet: “After Nur Islam Mistry and Tahudul Islam, its now Sk Fazle Haq and Dukhiram Dal of Khandaghosh. Killed by TMC. Frustration of loosing grounds continues…”
