Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah should stop talking about eating beef and should start addressing issues related to farmers in the state, former chief minister and leader of the opposition Janata Dal Secular party H D Kumaraswamy said here on Wednesday after returning from travels to rural areas around the state.
Kumaraswamy said that the chief minister who has many problems to solve including farmer suicides in the state was busy “talking about eating beef, fish and other such things”.
“Siddaramaiah must stop talking about eating beef. We don’t need that. What we need is programs for the rural parts of Karnataka where people are suffering on account of crop failures,” the JDS leader said. The former chief minister also fired a salvo at the BJP government in New Delhi saying the government instead of communicating its Make in India policy to the world had managed to create doubts in the minds of investors in the country.
“Recently Infosys founder Narayana Murthy told me that one of his friends from the US had expressed apprehension on visiting India. Murthy’s friend had heard that people were being attacked over food preferences,” he said.
The JDS leader also issued a threat to pull out from its fledgling two month old alliance with the Congress party in the Bengaluru city council if the Congress does start addressing issued like the garbage disposal problem and the traffic problem. “We are going to give them one year’s time to act and if they don’t we will withdraw support. I regretted the alliance on the day it was forged itself,” Kumaraswamy said in what is perceived as pressure tactics for release of funds to 14 city wards governed by JDS councilors. “The Congress party promised Rs 5 crore for councilors of each ward if we supported them. They have not released even five paisa,” Kumaraswamy alleged.
“We will not support the Congress next year if they fail to fix the roads and clear garbage related issues,” he said.
