BJP MP from Baghpat, Satyapal Singh, on Friday said that he had warned the previous UPA government about Islamic preacher Zakir Naik’s involvement in religious conversions.

Singh, former Mumbai police commissioner, told mediapersons in Meerut that he had prepared a report on Naik and his business, which was submitted to Mumbai Police and later forwarded to the UPA government for action.

“I have mentioned an instance where Zakir Naik converted 12 Hindu children in Mumbai. Five among them were girls. We had also quoted more such instances in the report,” Singh told The Indian Express. He added that the report also described Naik’s hate speeches and preachings, which were “very provocative”.

“He misinterpreted and misquoted religious books. We have mentioned in the report that such things can be dangerous and sought immediate action from the government. But nothing was done at the right time,” said Singh.
