Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday requested Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to immediately restore the Special Category status of Assam and augment central assistance to the State Plan during the formulation of the Union Budget 2016-17.
In a letter on Sunday, chief minister Gogoi also pleaded with Jaitley for restoration of the Centrally Sponsored Schemes and releasing of pending CST compensation due to the Assam. He also urged Jaitley to earmark appropriate Budget provisions to enable the Assam to get enhanced royalty on crude oil, VAT and other taxes on the actual market price and not on the basis of heavily discounted sale price.

Other issues Gogoi raised in his letter included restoration of the North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy of 2007, and incorporation of a special package for promotion and development of the MSME sector, a special package for the flood and erosion victims, funds for river embankment protection works, and special packages for development councils and areas along the Assam-Nagaland border.
Gogoi’s list also has a special package for protection of one-horned rhinos, as also for setting up skill development centres in all the 219 development blocks of the state.
