Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s former principal secretary Rajendra Kumar was granted bail on Tuesday by a special court in Delhi. Kumar was arrested by the CBI on charges of corruption earlier this month. He was granted bail today on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. The special court, while granting bail, told Kumar that he cannot contact the witnesses, or tamper with evidence in the corruption case. The court also imposed travel restrictions on him and ruled that he cannot travel outside Delhi without its permission.

Kumar was suspended by both Delhi government and the Ministry of Home Affairs as the rules mandate that an government officer must be suspended if he/she has been under police custody for more than 48 hours. Home ministry officials claimed that only the Centre has the power to suspend the 1989-batch IAS officer and asked the Delhi government to withdraw its order.

Kumar was arrested along with six others, including his close aide. Media reports claimed that his aide confessed to the crime and confirmed Kumar’s role in the corruption. Kumar had allegedly favoured a private agency and flouted rules while awarding government contracts.
