A man from Nayagarh has been detained by police for leaving his newly-wed wife after accusing her of being a transgender, even as a medical test proved otherwise. Last week, Barsharani Nayak (19) alias Pinky married Ananta Nayak. But, a few days after the wedding, Ananta demanded a medical examination, claiming she was a transgender.

“After staying with my wife, I realised that she was not a woman… However, her parents were not ready to accept the fact,” said Ananta. Barsharani was forced by her husband to undergo a medical check-up at the Nayagarh government hospital. “She is a woman in all aspects… However, I have recommended further tests,” said Dr Minaketan Baliarsingh, the doctor who conducted the test.
