Less than two weeks after all central universities resolved to hoist the national flag on their campuses to instil nationalism in students, all central schools have now been directed to do the same.

The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, in a communication sent last week, asked all its schools to hoist the Tricolour every morning and lower it before sunset. The flag, the letter states, should be positioned at a prominent place so that students can salute it every day during morning assembly. There are more than 1,000 Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country.

In his letter to the regional offices, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan’s additional commissioner, U N Khaware, said: “We should respect and know everything about our national flag. You are directed to ensure raising the flag every morning and its lowering before sunset on the buildings of Kendriya Vidyalayas and regional offices.” It adds: “Further, principals of your regions may be directed to position the flag post at prominent places, preferably in the morning assembly area.”

The move comes soon after 39 central university vice chancellors passed a resolution on February 18 to install the Tricolour on their campuses.
