Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is expected to touch down in Kerala today for the BJP’s election campaign, may visit the mother of the Dalit woman, who was raped and murdered in Perumbavoor.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage on the streets and social media where people questioned the slow pace of investigation. While the police have taken in several people for questioning, the main culprit still seems to be on the loose.

The 30-year-old woman, who was also a law student, was found lying in a pool of blood with at least 30 stab wounds in her body. The brutal manner in which she was killed has sparked comparisons to the December 16 gang-rape of 2012. Her mother, who discovered her body when she came from work, has been admitted to the hospital for shock. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and opposition leader VS Achuthanandan were among a stream of leaders making their way to the hospital in the backdrop of protests alleging police inaction in the case.

The issue was raised in the Rajya Sabha as well and Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot is expected to visit the village later today.
