Former RJD parliamentarian Mohammad Shahabuddin has been released from Bhagalpur jail on Saturday morning after 11 years as Patna High Court granted him bail in the Rajiv Raushan murder case. Rajiv was the prime witness in the case of brutal murder of his two brothers in Shahabuddin’s native village in Siwan district on August 16, 2004.
Shahabuddin’s supporters, including over a dozen ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal legislators and former ministers, have planned a grand welcome on his release. On release, Shahabuddin told reporters that, “We all know I was framed. But it was Court who jailed me, Court has released me,” reported news agency ANI.
BJP alleged that the Bihar government in a systematic manner paved the way for the release of RJD strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin from jail. But Shahabuddin denied any kind of political involvment in his bail.
“This has got nothing to do with politics, judicial has its own procedures,” said Mohammad Shahabuddin
The bail news had called for a celebration in Shahabuddin’s native village as relatives distributed sweets and supporters burst fire crackers and announced a grand welcome with a music band for politician Mohammad Shahabuddin
“Why would I try to change my image? People have accepted me the way I am for 26 years,” said Mohammad Shahabuddin
Shahabuddin’s wife Hina Sahab had told reporters in Siwan Thursday that she had been waiting for his release since 2003 and had full faith in God that he will be released soon.
