Modi Cabinet reshuffle: Prakash Javadekar promoted as Cabinet minister

Minister of State for Environment Prakash Javadekar was promoted to the Cabinet rank in the latest reshuffle of the Narendra Modi government. He took oath today at a function at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Javadekar had earlier held the Information and Broadcasting portfolio also, but Finance Finance Minister Arun Jailtley was handed over this ministry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expanded his Cabinet today inducting 19 new faces into the government. The reshuffle takes place after weeks of intense speculation and suspense.


Speaking to the Indian Express just hours before the rejig, Modi said that he is expanding the Cabinet and not changing it. He also said that the expansion will reflect focus on the budget.
