Maharashtra: Urban local bodies collect Rs 914.35 crore in old currency

The directorate of municipal administration which covers municipal councils collected Rs 128.55 crore, the statement said.

Urban local bodies in Maharashtra have collected Rs 914.35 crore in the form of taxes and arrears from citizens in the demonetised currency notes. The time for accepting demonetised notes to pay taxes was extended till November 24 two days ago. Since the Centre announced the decision to demonetise Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 denomination notes on November 8, the Maharashtra government allowed citizens to pay their dues like water bills, electricity bills, property tax and arrears in the scrapped currency.

Till November 18, among the municipal corporations, Mumbai collected Rs 266.95 crore, Pune Rs 111.11 crore, Navi Mumbai Rs 37.33 crore, Pimpri-Chinchwad 31.83 crore and Thane Rs 35 crore, a government statement said on Saturday.
