CPI(M)-led LDF regained power in Kerala cruising to a comfortable majority by inflicting a massive drubbing to the ruling Congress-headed UDF in the assembly polls which also saw BJP scripting history by opening its account in the state assembly.
LDF won 91 of the 140 assembly seats at stake. The result of Wadakkancherry is yet to be declared officially where UDF candidate Anil Akkara has won by a margin of just three votes. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) won 85 seats on its own and another six by independents fielded by the opposition front.
93-year-old V S Achutanandan, the face of the LDF campaign and CPI(M) polit bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan,
Thomas Issac, E P Jayarajan and actor Mukesh are among prominent winners in the LDF.

BJP’s leader and former Union minister O Rajagopal won from Nemom by defeating CPI(M) MLA V Sivankutty by a margin of 8,671 votes.
Adding to the Congress agony is the defeat of Chandy ministers like Shibu Baby John, KP Mohanan and K Babu.

The LDF has delivered an incredible performance, with chances of winning in up to 92 seats. The alliance has done extremely well in its strongholds of Kannur, Kollam and Thrissur districts. At the same time, it has also made major inroads in districts like Ernakulam and Malappuram where UDF have held sway.
The BDJS, widely expected to make inroads, could not produce a single win. But its influence may have likely produced results in constituencies where the BJP has come a close second.
For the UDF, this will be an election to forget. Senior ministers like K Babu, Shibu Baby John and K Mohanan have suffered defeats. Outgoing CM Oommen Chandy has however scored a victory in his home town of Puthupally.

7:35 am: CM Oommen Chandy is visiting the St John’s Church in Thiruvananthapuram ahead of counting of votes. Remember, the leader is contesting from his hometown of Puthupally.
7:32 am: Counting of votes will begin at 8 am. Most of the leaders are believed to be in their respective constituencies waiting for the results to unfold.
